Enjoy the security provided by STO Garant

Booking a travel package through an organisation signed up to STO Garant? In that case, you can be sure of one thing: your booking payment is safe and protected. STO Garant ensures that the booking sum paid in advance is held in reserve for you. The money is then released to the organisation on the day after your package trip ends. This means that there is no risk of your advance payment being lost due to bankruptcy or fraud.

And even if the organisation should be declared bankrupt or is granted a suspension of payments once you have already started enjoying your package trip, we are there for you. In such cases, we will ensure that you are able to continue having a great time or, if there is no other option, that you are brought safely back to the departure point for your trip.

When booking a travel package, it is therefore always a good idea to check whether the organiser has signed up to STO Garant. You can then go on your travels with peace of mind, free to enjoy your well-earned holiday.

STO Garant

How our guarantee scheme works

When a travel package is covered by STO Garant, instead of paying the money for your booking directly to the organiser, you pay it into an escrow (client fund) account. The amount paid is held in this account until your package trip comes to an end. The amount is then automatically released to the organisation on the day after the package trip ends. If, due to financial inability, the organiser is no longer able to meet its obligations towards you, you will receive a refund or, if you are still travelling, you will be repatriated.

As a traveller, what should I look out for?

When booking a travel package, it is important that you carefully check whether the organiser has signed up to STO Garant and operates in accordance with the method prescribed. You can be sure that this is the case if the organiser meets the following conditions:

  1. The organisation is listed on the STO Garant website. If you have any doubts about whether an organiser has signed up to STO Garant, we recommend that you contact us before booking and making any payments.
  2. The organiser’s travel conditions clearly state that, in the event of organiser bankruptcy or suspension of payments, the booking sum held in reserve for you will be released to STO Garant.
  3. You always pay the booking sum for your trip into the escrow account under the name ‘Stichting Derdengelden Certo Escrow inzake STO Garant’ through the STO Garant platform. If you have booked a trip covered by STO Garant, it is important that you never pay money into any other account. Once you receive the booking confirmation from your organiser, you will receive an email from STO Garant containing an explanation about the payment for your booking. So, you pay nothing directly to the organiser!
  4. You pay the full booking sum to Stichting Derdengelden Certo Escrow before starting out on your travels. Any trips for which the booking sum has not been paid into the escrow account before travel commences are unfortunately not covered by STO Garant.

How our guarantee scheme works if an organiser becomes financially insolvent

You can find the latest news about financial insolvency in relation to STO Garant members here. To date, no STO Garant members have been declared bankrupt.

If you suspect that your organiser is bankrupt or has been granted a suspension of payments and there is no information about this on this website, please contact us straight away.

If an organiser has been declared bankrupt or granted a suspension of payments and your package trip has yet to begin, the booking sum paid in advance will automatically be transferred to your account within four weeks.

If your package trip has already started, you will be contacted as soon as possible. In such cases, you can also contact us by telephone or email if you have any questions.
