STO Garant guarantee scheme revised

05/06/2018 - The STO travel guarantee scheme has grown rapidly since it was started in 2013. With the new Package Travel Directive coming into effect on 1 July 2018, the time has come for the guarantee scheme to be revised too, ensuring that it reflects the developments in the sector.

Protection for travellers is an extremely important matter within the travel sector. Nevertheless, the options open to organisations for offering such protection were until recently very limited. The only option was to become a member of a guarantee fund. In 2013, a group of businesses in the travel sector, working with Certo Escrow, decided to set up an alternative guarantee scheme and so the STO Travel Guarantee was born. The guarantee scheme, which was based on an automated escrow solution, proved to be meeting a huge demand and consequently it grew rapidly. More than 150 organisations are now members and each year, travellers in their tens of thousands are protected while travelling thanks to the STO Travel Guarantee.

Due to the fact that the definition of a travel package has now been extended, the revised Package Travel Directive, which will come into force on 1 July 2018, now affects many businesses that are not part of the traditional travel sector. In order to give such organisations the chance to sign up to the STO Travel Guarantee, the time has now come for the scheme to be developed further. We have been working on this behind the scenes for many months now and think that the time has come for us to update the identity and look of the STO Travel Guarantee. So, as we launch the new website, we are also proud to present our new name and look: welcome to STO Garant, the simple, affordable guarantee scheme for all travel packages!
